I am a compulsive collector of old things with character.  My barn/studio has been overrun by old toys, vintage children’s books, and antique prints.  These odd bits and pieces were originally transformed into strange dioramas, later became props in my staged photos, and eventually made their way into paintings.

Along the way, “Roadside Attractions” came into being.  This collaborative show, made in conjunction with Chan Davis, is a full-scale museum installation of several thousand square feet.  This installation includes dioramas, staged photos, paintings and more, constructed to form a series of rooms illustrating the adventures of some life-size characters including Dolly and Big Boy, Furry Face, and Dodo.

The theme of all my work concerns the relationship of humans and the natural world, expressing a desire to merge with the animal world and sadness at the continuing destruction of our planet. As the population of man increases, many species of animals, insects, and plants disappear forever.  As our living spaces multiply and cover the earth, natural habitats dwindle and disappear.  In my art the animal and plant life is lush and abundant and the viewer communes with nature and serves as a silent witness to our loss.
